TXBCS PAL Color-Coded Labels & Directory
Installation Instructions
Thank you for purchasing TXBCS's PAL circuit breaker panel labeling system. PAL labels are designed to clearly mark the circuit breakers in both the main and sub panels. Before starting make a list of the circuit breakers and positions in each panel. The PAL system is different allowing you a choice to organize your panel's directory logically, physically, or both!
Logical organization by function without regard to physical position i.e. group lighting, outlets, motors, and etc. together in the directory and use the breaker labels to locate their panel position, physical by following the sequential panel positioning, or both by including the physical position in the directory description.
The two label sets include the main (entrance) panel index directory with eleven (11) numbered and color coded description positions and the sub panel directory with thirty (30) or forty (40) similar positions. The single label sets are comprised of the sub panel group. Corresponding to each description position is a colored and numbered breaker label. For magnetic sets use a pair of scissors to separate each label from its strip as needed. Use caution not to cut yourself with the scissors. Keep the unused labels together placing them next to the directory for future use. For adhesive sets the breaker labels are simply pealed off the backing.
Your ordered sub panel directory has either all positions blank or ten (10) most common household electrical devices pre-printed with the last positions blank to write in custom descriptions. The main panel directory has all description positions blank. Magnetic sets include lank description strips for you to identify your panel. Now on to how to best use the PAL labels.
The panel index directory label groups and the individual breaker labels are magnetic and can be removed and repositioned. It is desirable to apply the labels and breaker stickers to dry, dust free, and oil free surfaces. However, remember you are applying the labels to an electrical panel!!
BE VERY CAREFUL DO NOT USE WATER OR OTHER LIQUIDS TO CLEAN THE PANEL SURFACE. CALL A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR SEE ANYTHING WHICH CONCERNS YOU.
After using a felt tipped pen to write in your customized descriptions, find a location on the panel face or interior side of the cover to place the directory. The labels and directory are not weatherproof. So, be certain to place them on the inside of the panel cover. The location should not cover or hide any existing panel labels, markings, indexes, or etc. Locate for each directory position description the corresponding circuit breaker, and place the matching magnetic label next to the breaker. MAKE CERTAIN TO PLACE THE LABELS ON THE PANEL STEEL METAL SURFACE AND NOT THE PLASTIC BREAKER BODY.
Try to position the labels to the side of the breaker in such a manner that there can be no confusion about which circuit breaker is associated with the label. If you are identifying a two pole/position breaker, place the label between the breakers and make a note on the directory - this is a two pole breaker. After you finish, ask someone to use the directory and labels to find every breaker listed. Do this as a check to eliminate confusion later on when you need to find the breakers quickly. Afterwards, you can use a drop of adhesive to permanently attach magnetic labels, or if you purchased the optional adhesive labels you can now place them under the magnetic labels.
